Movie scenes I love: "I had you" scene from Sentimental Value (2025)

I saw this movie with Elna in Newtown. One of the best movies I have seen this year and the most moving.  It had the most beautiful interaction between two siblings I have ever seen. The movie stars the incredible Renate Reinsve and is directed by Joachim Trier, the director of another of my favourite movies; "The Worst Person in the World" which also starred Renate.

The Pink Panther Strikes Again

No movie made me laugh more as a young kid than Return of the Pink Panther, especially the scene between Peter Sellers and Christopher Plummer in a castle where Peter Sellers, as Inspector Clouseau, is extracting a tooth, dressed in disguise, pretending to be a dentist. They are both high on laughing gas, laughing uncontrollably, and then Peter Seller's fake nose starts to melt.  There is also an hilarious bedroom scene at the end with Peter Sellers and Catherine Schell. Oh the hilarity of it all. I remember laughing so much I nearly wet myself.

Watching "Together" at Newtown

I went to Newtown to see Together, a surreal film about a couple whose relationship takes a bizarre turn after they fall into a mysterious cave. What begins as a romantic escape quickly spirals into body horror and psychological fusion. A mind-bending exploration of love, identity, and losing yourself—literally—in someone else.  After the movie I went for a short walk in the neighbourhood.

How to Tame Your Dragon

I watched the live-action movie How to Train Your Dragon at the cinema, which is a remake of the 2010 animated classic. The film tells the story of Hiccup, a young Viking who lives in a village that hunts dragons. Everything changes when he injures a rare Night Fury and, instead of killing it, chooses to befriend and train it. This decision challenges the beliefs of his people and sets off a journey of understanding, courage, and transformation. The live-action version closely follows the plot of the original and features stunning visual effects that bring the dragons and Viking world to life. As a fan of the animated trilogy, I appreciated how faithful the remake was while adding a new layer of realism.

Young Woman and the Sea - what a movie!

I just watched Young Woman and the Sea (2024), and found Gertrude Ederle’s story incredibly inspiring. As the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926, she didn’t just complete the grueling 21-mile journey—she shattered expectations. Battling strong currents and freezing waters, Ederle finished the swim in 14 hours and 34 minutes, beating the existing men’s record by nearly two hours. At just 20 years old, she proved not only that a woman could do it, but that she could do it better, making her a trailblazer in both sport and history.

David Attenborough

I have grown up to David Attenborough's nature documentaries. I remember watching "Life on Earth" and "The Living Planet" as a child and being absolutely mesmerised. David Attenborough played a huge role in instilling in me a wonder and love for nature and wildlife.  He has been such an inspirational figure in my life.

Reasons I love and admire him so much

  • His sense of the wonder and sacredness of nature and wildlife.
  • The way he makes nature documentaries so captivating and deeply personal.
  • A lifelong advocate for preserving the environment and protecting endangered species.
  • The way he has introduced so many to the wonders of nature and the importance of conserving it.
  • His love of getting out into the world, being filmed on location, getting up, close and personal to nature.
  • How he embodies a relentless curiosity about life on Earth, encouraging others to explore and learn.
  • His sense of humour and charm.

Some favourite quotes

  • An understanding of the natural world is a source of not only great curiosity, but great fulfilment.
  • It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.
  • Every breath of air we take, every mouthful of food that we take, comes from the natural world. And if we damage the natural world, we damage ourselves.
  • People must feel that the natural world is important and valuable and beautiful and wonderful and an amazement and a pleasure.
  • We must rewild the world.
  • Nature is our biggest ally and greatest inspiration.
