Movie scenes I love: Opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark

Where do I even begin with the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark? It had an enormous impact on me. It is one of the earliest films I remember seeing at the cinema, and the experience was transcendent. From the mysterious journey through the jungle and the discovery of the golden idol to the collapsing temple and that unforgettable giant boulder, it absolutely grabbed my attention.

That opening sequence set the tone for an adventure unlike anything I had experienced before, and I remained entranced for the entire film. It filled me with excitement, wonder and a sense that movies could transport me completely into another world. Looking back, I think that was where my lifelong adoration of cinema truly began.

Favourite directors: Steven Spielberg

"I don't dream at night, I dream at day, I dream all day; I'm dreaming for a living."  Steven Spielberg

I have a particular love for Steven Spielberg because so many of his films are woven into my childhood. Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park and the Indiana Jones films helped shape my early love of cinema, and I have probably seen more of his movies than those of any other director. His range is extraordinary: he can create thrilling entertainment, intimate human drama and powerful historical films. Above all, Schindler’s List had a profound impact on me; no film has ever moved me more. I also love that, despite his enormous success, Spielberg seems like such a warm, gracious and genuinely lovely person in real life.
