Insights (2016)

  • Love the mind; the being. "Its ok my baby"
  • Just notice what's here. What's here Now?
  • Utter simplicity. Absolutely necessary? Space up.
  • All spiritual thoughts are empty, arising from emptiness and returning to it. All pointing to this.
  • May all beings be happy and free
  • Watching mind and labeling
  • This is a natural world, governed by natural laws, unfolding a meant to, and Life is on the journey too.
  • A multiverse of different laws ?
  • The totality of the universe brought me and this moment into being. Exactly as meant to be. As am I.
  • Don't act in anger or resentment (Chris, Sue)
  • What is happening now? What is arising in the space I am?

Getting high on Nutmeg

We heard from Chris that in his youth he and his friends got high on Nutmeg !!  Sharon did some research to validate.

Nutmeg, that piquant brown spice you sprinkle on egg nog, is chock full o' the organic compound myristicin. Eating four to eight teaspoons of ground nutmeg causes mild hallucinations, warmth in the limbs, dizziness, nausea, cottonmouth, paranoia, difficulty urinating and, the coup de grace, a hangover that feels like God taking a dump on your soul.

Some users compare the nutmeg "high" to a hellish case of the flu. To make things worse, nutmeg consumption is easily the most inconvenient way to get high--its effects kick in five to six hours after ingestion. That's like having to drink a six-pack at lunch in anticipation of happy hour.

For those of you who who want to push your luck with nutmeg, don't worry. The FDA reportedly has no plans to raid your spice rack. Probably because they're assuming nobody is dumb enough to give it a go.

*!*!*!* Here's to you Chris - who has lived to tell the tale....   perhaps you could turn this experience into a Toastmasters talk?

A wonderful email from Su, my former housemate

Hey, G ... !

We introduce you to the new family member: Annabel Sophie Hirsch.

we hope you are good and life is blessing you with all you deserve!… we wanted to share the news with you… cuz in our hearts you are still uncle G!  and now you have  another little reason for visiting Switzerland!…

best wishes from the 4 of us!

Alex, Su, Amie and Annie

Hi Su

Your email brought tears to my eyes, both the beautiful words and the photo of your new little parcel of joy.  She is absolutely gorgeous!   May Annie bring you a lifetime of love, joy and laughter as your beautiful family journeys together through the adventures of life.

I hope you are all well and that life in Switzerland is wonderful. I send my love to all of you.  Give both Amie and Annie a big hug from Uncle G !  And a big hearty hello to dear Alex.

Life on my side is great. I've renovated the house, doing all the work myself, and it's lovely to live in a beautiful place, especially with all the plants everywhere (my new obsession!).  But it will always feel like it's missing a little something.  Namely you guys!

Yes, a trip to Europe is a must someday. It will be so wonderful to see you all.

Sending you all sunshine,
G

Melbourne

While spending a week at Brendan's farm, we visited Melbourne for a day.  Brendan went to a legal meeting and I did some strolling and photographing.  I reckon I got the better end of the stick!

One of the famous graffiti lanes in Melbourne

This beautiful old building was in a shopping centre!  They obviously weren't allowed to knock it down so built the shopping centre around it.  If only they'd do the same thing with trees.

Synchronicity: Life is God's movie

In 2016, I woke up in a very elevated state similar in some ways with my elevated states of consciousness that I experienced during my "enlightened mania" experience in 2015.  The strong sense came over me again that life is unfolding perfectly and is a movie created, directed and experienced by God through each of us.  Life is God's movie and it is already in the can. I felt a wonderful sense of peaceful bliss at the thought.

I got out of bed, dressed and got onto a bus to go to the Spit Bridge to join some friends for a hike.  As I was driving, I received an email from Sharon giving me a link to online information about one of her favourite spiritual gurus; Paramahansa Yogananda. I explored the link to discover that "Life is God's movie" is one of his favourite metaphors.

Later that day, I listened to a teaching by Mooji. In the talk, he too used the metaphor.  He said something along the lines of "It's all a movie. It's all just happening. Consciousness (God) is the great movie maker."

An hour or two later, an email arrived with a teaching from Scott Kiloby. In this teaching, Scott too used up the metaphor that life is a movie.

The next day, Sharon send me an email with a quote from Barry Long, a spiritual guru she admires. In it, he too used the metaphor that life is God's movie.

A couple of days later, I mentioned the "Life is God's movie" metaphor.  Yogi said "Wow, I've just read a book that contains that metaphor." He lent me the book by Merlyn Swan. She uses the metaphor including the quote: "The film of life is already in the can and all I can do is view one frame at a time. I have no choice or free will. I am a character playing a role, dancing the divine dance, the way God wants. Independence and volition are part of the illusion."  Merlyn Swan is a relatively unknown author and the chances for Yogi to be reading that book is very slim.

So, in short, I woke up with the express feeling and thought "Life is God's movie." Then in the space of only a few days, I came across this metaphor used expressly by 5 different spiritual teachers.  There was an immense sense of wonder at the synchronicity. It felt very meaningful.

Since, then, I have researched this metaphor extensively and as of 2022, I am writing a book about it.

Evening at Shushann's place

We had such a lovely evening  in Coogee last night including a gorgeous swim, some invigorating leaps and delicious food (including some mouth watering baklava and pear frangipane)  Also a beautiful group meditation.  I'm so blessed to have such incredibly special friends.

Getting into the leaping spirit.

Hi there beautiful friends

Thank you for such a beautiful evening last night.  It was so special - and delicious!  I enjoyed every minute. Thanks you again for having us, Shushann.  24 hours on and I'm still dreaming of the baklava!

Attached are some pics and videos of us leaping. You are all amazing leapers!  Joyous and graceful.

See you on Tues night,

After Millie's party

Dear Graeme,

Thank you so much for inviting me to join your special, special blog. I've been so enjoying the little bits I've looked at just now, and will spend more time soon.

You are a dear man, and I enjoy getting to know you, and our friendship. I love your openness, profundity and joy, among so many other beautiful states and traits I observe and feel around you. I find with you an intense brightness and fineness that is rare. So thank you. Thank you for being you.

Life is good!

Sharon

Dear Sharon

Thank you for your beautiful, affirming words.

I've so enjoyed getting to know you too. The access you have to the light of your being and the way it radiates through you as joy, love, serenity, physical grace and healing attention is an enormous source of inspiration to me. Also the way you embrace life with such love and live it so deeply.  You are beautiful in so many ways.  I'm very grateful to Life for bringing you into my life and the lives of my dear, dear Eckhart friends.  I know they feel the same way.

I read a couple of quotes the other day that made me think of you because you personify them ...

I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being.  Hafiz of Shiraz

The spiritual life does not remove us from the world but leads us deeper into it.  Henri J. M. Nouwen

It isn't by getting out of the world that we become enlightened, but by getting into the world…by getting so tuned in that we can ride the waves of our existence and never get tossed because we become the waves.  Ken Kesey

Words are so wonderful aren't they? The way they point to truth.  And the way they create a platform into the chasm of the soul from where we can leap off into its depths where all words fall away.

Life is indeed good,
G

Dear Graeme,

Thank you, so much, for your deeply touching words, and beautiful quotes.

It is so beautiful to know what you perceive, as I can't really see how this unnameable reality I love and am reflects to others... I just am it, more and more. This is one of the true Graces of another who has the x-ray vision (as Barry sometimes described it) and the ability and will to communicate and reflect it back - helping it go even deeper. Thank you, thank you, thank you...

I am also so very grateful to Life for bringing you into my life, and the other dear Eckhart beings who are each so beautiful. I feel so blessed, and am loving this unfolding of love, wonder and sweetness that is occurring between and within each of us. All so indescribably beautiful! Oh God, this Life is so beautiful! It's sometimes hard to remain conscious within all the beauty... yet I do my best!
How beautifully you describe what occurs as words point to truth and then dissolve as I become that truth.

Yes, Life is so Good!!
