Ode to Cambridge

Spent Saturday afternoon rollerblading round the colleges taking some snaps. Cambridge is stunning at any time of the year, but it takes on a supreme quality in the Autumn with its gentle tones and the golden hues. Ah, I'm going to miss this place.

Sally comes to visit

Sally and Ally in Claire Garden, Cambridge. Ally took the day off to spend some quality time with Sally. Lovely to have her to stay for a night.

The dangers of punting

We went punting along the Camb last weekend and saw a suspicious bunch of guys on the bridge ahead. Didn't think too much of it though - until we passed under the bridge and they unexpectedly "bombed" us from the bridge. We got soaked. And loved it - the girls thought the "bombers" were kinda cute and the weather was hot so a bit of a cooler off was just what we needed. Can't say that all the other punters on the river who experienced the same treatment felt as amiable as us though.

Martin's farewell punt

Another punt down the Camb, this time as a farewell outing for Martin. It was a gloriously sunny day with temperature over 30 degrees. Seemed liked everyone in Cambridge was out soaking up the rays. Ally was in the Lake District with Rosemarie so missed the outing. Afterwards, we went back to Mats and Maria for a steak barbecue. It was a late and rather drunken night.

Pretty in pink

Every day now at work I go for a walk through Duxford with some colleagues (great exercise) and the scene of this pink car outside the pink house always makes me smile. I've seen the owner of the house and car a few times - and she herself is always adorned in pink. Well, what did you expect?

Punting towards Granchester

Went for a marathon punt along the Cam today to Granchester. The river is very natural along this section - not quite as cultural (no 14th century colleges) but very peaceful. We took a picnic lunch.
 

Cycling along the river

Went for cycle and picnic along the river on Sunday to make the most of the great weather. Salmon and prawn sandwiches from the picnic bag - followed by a large "chocolate special" from a nearby pub (see photo) really hit the spot. There are some lovely open fields and little villages along the river just outside Cambridge. We really enjoyed our exploring.

Imperial War Museum (Duxford)

David came up to Cambridge and we explored the Imperial War Museum. A great place with lots to see. Dave, who is a plane nut, was absolutely in his element.

There's something rather beautiful about fighter planes, despite the destruction they cause. They're so sleek and predatory, like steel falcons.

I liked the reflections of the clouds in the glass window - and the way the plane inside (hung to the ceiling) looked like it was soaring in its memories of days done by.

We were very excited to explore the inside of this concorde. Such a pity they don't fly anymore - almost the end of an era.

I was experimenting with silhouettes again - and was lucky to snap the dove flying as just the right minute. I'm rather chuffed with this!!

You can see the dove again in the top shot. I love the majestic spires of King's College. You're right mum, I'm going to miss Cambridge. I'll have to make the most of it during the next 7 months.
