Nobby Lighthouse and Breakwater (Newcastle)

I had a lovely evening stroll along Nobbys Breakwater with beautiful views of the Nobby Lighthouse.

Nobby Lighthouse stands on Nobbys Headland at the entrance to Newcastle Harbour, marking one of Australia’s most important industrial ports. The lighthouse was first lit in 1858 and has since been rebuilt and upgraded several times, now operating as an automated coastal light guiding vessels safely past the headland.

Extending from Nobbys is the historic breakwater, constructed from the late 19th century to protect the harbour from heavy seas and to stabilise the entrance channel. Today, the breakwater doubles as a popular pedestrian walkway, offering close-up views of coal ships, container vessels, dolphins, and seabirds, while the lighthouse itself remains a defining symbol of Newcastle’s maritime history and ongoing working harbour.

Nobby Breakwater (Newcastle)

I went for a nice walk along the breakwater to stretch my body after crawling on my belly in the mud photographing birds.
