Xenia birthday lunch at Frenchy's

We love Frenchy's cafe in Mosman. It has very much become our regular haunt. Xenia had her 55th birthday while she was in Tasmania but we celebrated it now that she was back.  Afterwards, I went for a wonderful walk to Taronga Zoo.

Wearing Shushann's glasses for fun. Very clear !!

Frenchy's and Middle Head coastal defences

I met Shushann for lunch at Frenchies. Lydia was there and came and joined us for a while. After lunch, I went for a stroll and explored a nearby World War 2 coastal defence fortification.

World War 2 coastal defences

Middle Head played a crucial role in protecting Sydney Harbour during World War II. When Japanese midget submarines entered the harbour in May 1942, it confirmed fears that the city was within reach of attack. In response, coastal defence sites like Middle Head were reinforced with powerful guns aimed across the harbour entrance, searchlight positions to spot enemy vessels at night, and thick concrete bunkers built to withstand bombardment. Beneath the headland, tunnels allowed troops to move between positions unseen and safely store ammunition. Today, you can still walk through many of these structures — solid reminders that this peaceful lookout was once on constant alert, guarding the gateway to Sydney.

Frenchy's with Chris and his sister

Chris's sister, Marion, is out from New Zealand. We met her and her friend, Jasmine, for lunch at Frenchy's.  They are both so lovely. Afterwards, I walked to Balmoral where I caught a bus home.
