I love Ridley Scott because few directors have created such a wide range of films while maintaining such a strong visual identity. From the haunting science fiction of Alien and Blade Runner to the sweeping historical worlds of Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and The Last Duel, his films always feel immersive, atmospheric and beautifully crafted. He can move effortlessly between epic spectacle, intimate drama, crime thrillers and science fiction, yet his work nearly always carries a sense of scale, seriousness and visual grandeur. Even when the stories are dark, Scott makes them compelling to look at, and many of his films have stayed with me for years.
