Favourite directors: John Carney

I’ve loved John Carney’s films ever since Once, which really touched me with its simple story and wonderful music. I love music and am fascinated by the creative process—how songs are written, developed, rehearsed and finally brought to life. His films capture that process extremely well and make you feel part of it. Music is never just in the background; it is central to the characters and their relationships. Whether it is Once, Begin Again, Sing Street or Flora and Son, his films show how making music can bring people together and change the direction of their lives.
