Buying my first Macbook Pro

I'm totally in love with the wonderful 15 inch computer. I'm now totally hooked on Apple. The aesthetics and quality and service are unparalleled. It also talks beautifully with my iPhone.  Also, I love the Mac operating system, finding it much more intuitive and pleasing than Windows.  I'm so glad I got to learn it by helping Sue with her iMac a couple of years previously.

Notes from my purchase decision

Why not PC?
  • I could spend $1500 - $2000 and be very unhappy.
  • Windows gets slower with time.
  • Bewildering choice.
  • I hate Windows 8.
  • Quality is not assured. Often problems.  Have to replace a little while down track.

Why Mac?
  • I live on my computer. Get something good.
  • Quality assured. Will last.  At least 7 years?
  • Exciting and sexy, will give me great boost in mood.
  • Resolution great, can edit photos without screen.
  • Very lightweight for specs.
  • Will talk to other devices (iphone)
  • Excellent service and support if problem.
  • Highly reviewed. Voted best company before Asus and Lenovo.
  • iMovie

Why get best model I can afford
  • Need video card for images.
  • Something that will last - both physically and spec wise.
  • Apple cannot be updated, get best I can. New apps in future will require more.

Requirements
  • Speed for editing photos. I want it to fly!
  • Good screen resolution, brightness for editing photos when away.
  • Run most recent of my favourite software. Excel. Mindmanager.
  • Must last physically (durable)
  • Must last perf wise (specs last)

Less important
  • Portability for travel to South Africa.
  • Fast boot up time (SSD)

Issues to consider
  • May be learning curve, take some time.
  • Expensive ($1500 more than budgeted) - but dividends $500 more than expected. Spent $1000 less on camera.
  • Picasa will not work (but no future anyway, get something better.)
  • Will take getting used to operating system.
  • Excel spreadsheet may not work.
  • May mess up my spreadsheet (many, many hours of work)
  • Need to repurchase Mindmanager - favourite software.  ($350, $179)
