The Fish River Canyon hike in Namibia remains one of the most memorable walks I have ever done. I tackled it with Rory, James and several others, following the river for approximately 85 kilometres through the immense canyon—a journey that took us five days. The scenery was spectacular throughout, with towering rock walls, vast open spaces and the canyon changing character around every bend.
Some of my favourite memories are of swimming in the river pools along the way and, each evening, rolling out our sleeping bags on the sand and sleeping beneath an extraordinary canopy of stars. The only real hiccup was that a couple of people in our group developed terrible blisters after sand worked its way into their shoes. Despite their suffering, it was an unforgettable wilderness adventure and one of the finest hikes I have ever experienced.
