Creating a slide show of Pennelope's art

Chris has an elderly friend who lived at his council flat and is now in a frail care old age home.  She loves to create art but there is no longer any room for it. We digitalised it for her and have created a slide show for her to enjoy.  She was so delighted when we shared it with her.  She is such a delightful lady.

Dog paintings at The Botanica

I was delighted to come across these photos on Facebook. The Botanica Cafe in Waverton sadly closed in 2023. One of the things that made it so special as our local haunt was these paintings of doggies on their back wall. They were the dogs of the owners. Tragically, someone broke into the cafe a few years back and stole the paintings.  But here they are, immortalised for my viewing pleasure. Pure nostalgia. I spent so many wonderful hours at this cafe. It was a very special place.

Painted rocks on my balcony

When I was in Cape Town, I bought some rocks from Mikaela, a very talented friend of Jo's,  to add to my collection on my balcony. Aren't they beautiful!

René Magritte exhibit at Art Gallery of NSW

Wow, what a treat this was.  The prolific and creative art of René Magritte, one of the most iconic and famous surreal painters to ever live, was on exhibit at The Art Gallery of NSW. I was absolutely mesmerised by it.

René Magritte (1898–1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist known for his enigmatic works that challenge perceptions of reality. His art features everyday objects in unexpected contexts, blending simplicity with mystery. Iconic pieces like The Son of Man (a man with his face obscured by an apple) reflect his fascination with the tension between representation and reality.

Magritte's fame lies in his ability to make the familiar uncanny, influencing surrealism, pop art, and advertising. By transforming ordinary objects into visual puzzles, his work continues to inspire curiosity and challenge audiences to question appearances and embrace deeper mysteries.

His wife, Georgette, was his lifelong muse

Magritte’s wife, Georgette Berger, played a pivotal role in his life and art, serving as both his muse and steadfast partner. The couple met as teenagers and shared a deep, lifelong bond that provided Magritte with emotional stability and inspiration. Georgette often appeared in his paintings, embodying the themes of love, mystery, and beauty central to his work.
